Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a quite common condition. Having this condition, you will feel your stomach getting cramped, bloated, diarrhoea and constipation. Unfortunately, rather than a short term, this disorder is known as long term condition. This disorder usually first emerge at the age of 20, and there are more women than men affected.

The symptoms of IBS can vary among person and also the severity of the symptom may not be the same. The most common symptoms of the IBS are stomach ache, feeling of bloating, excessive stomach gas, Diarrhea, constipation, and mucus in the stool. However, there are symptoms that need to be attention to, which are rectal bleeding, stomach pain at night, and weight loss.

CAUSES

 


The cause of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome actually not known clearly. There are many things that can cause this syndrome, which are hypersensitive colon, overreact to certain stimulator, abnormal squeeze of bowel muscles, body’s chemical such serotonin and gastrin, certain stomach bacteria, and also hormone level.

Acupuncture Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

The acupuncture treatment consists of six aspects which are chosen acupuncture points, number of treatment sessions, duration of each treatment, treatment frequency, needling technique, and experience level of acupuncturist.
In treating the patient with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, acupuncturist choose 6 fix acupoints and some optional points. The 6 fixed acupoints are Conception Vessel 10, Stomach 25, Liver 3, Spleen 4, Pericardium 6 and Stomach 37. And some optional points are Stomach 36 and Conception Vessel 4 (for the Chinese diagnosis of deficiency), Large Intestine 4 Liver 14, (for stagnant qi or energy), Stomach 40, Large Intestine 11 (for dampness), Stomach 27 (for cold), Conception Vessel 12 (for “retention of food”), Gall Bladder 34 (for “damp heat”) and Spleen 10 and Spleen 6 (for “blood stasis”). The needle inserted to each acupoint until the patient sense the feeling of de qi (grasping the energy) and then the needle will be left in its place for 20 minutes.
