Melena or Gastrointestinal bleeding is a bleeding that happen inside gastrointestinal. The blood then can be seen in the stool. It is a common clinical problem that usually need hospitalization. This disease is used to be a life threatening disease, but now it is not anymore due to the progression of the medication technique. Usually, the bleeding can resolve on their own. But still the cause of the bleeding need to be determined.

The symptom of melena is that is the existence of blood in the stool. The indication that there is blood in stool is that the stool color is black and also tarry. If the stool look black and tarry, it is mean that there is a bleeding that originate from some place higher up in the gut-esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

CAUSES

 


Black and tarry stool is caused by the bleeding. The bleeding is happen in upper part of gut. The most common cause of melena are peptic ulcers, cirrohis, gastritis, esophagitis, and also malignancy.

Acupuncture Treatment For Melena (Blood in Stool)

One of the cause of melena is constipation. Therefore, in order to cure melena, the constipation must be healed too. According to the traditional chinese medication practise, constipation have some treatment pattern, which are Hot Constipation, Qi Constipation, Wind Constipation, Food Constipation, Cold Constipation, and Blood Deficiency. To cure constipation, there are some acupoints that can be selected, including : ST25 (Li Mu), UB25 (Li Shu), SP15 (Augments ST25), ST44 (ST Water Point). Other acupoints that are useful for treatment of the constipation are TH6 and KD6.
