Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a condition  experienced by women around the time of/just before their menstrual period begins.  . PMS syndrome can begin around day 14 and last until seven days after the start of menstruation.

Symptoms of PMS are usually mild to moderate in intensity. The symptoms of PMS disorder are so many and can vary between women, they include; abdominal bloating and pain, sore breasts, acne, diarrhoea, headaches, fatigue, irritability, and anxiety.

CAUSES

 

Causes include; change of hormone level, brain’s chemical change, lifestyle factors, weight and exercise, stress, and diet.

Acupuncture Treatment For Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Acupuncture treats PMS by targeting the acupoints of SP6 and CV6.  Other additional acupoint might be used,  depending on individual patients. Additional acupoints are DU20, LI4, H3, REN3,4,6, PE6, GB34, UB23. The technique used would be traditional, back-shu points and Point-thought-point techniques, electroacupuncture on scalp. Number of treatment sessions for this condition are 2 – 13 sessions. Complementary treatment such as moxibustion can be given to increase treatment effectiveness.
