Reflux occurs when stomach acid flows up into the eosophagus. If this condition happens more than twice a week, it is called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

The main symptom of reflux is heartburn. Heartburn is a burning sensation that is felt in the chest. Other symptoms that might be experienced are bad breath, bloating, pain when swallowing, sore throat, and persistent cough.

CAUSES
One of the causes of acid reflux is hiatus hernia. Other risk factors that can contribute to the occurrence of reflux are obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and caffeine.

Acupuncture Treatment For Reflux
Acupuncture treatment is considered to be an effective treatment for Reflux. One of the causes of Reflux is Esophageal dysmotility. Treatment for this disorder involves acupoints of Neiguan (PC6), Taichong (LV3), Gongsun (SP4), Zhongwan (CV12), and Zusanli (ST36). After the needles have been inserted, stimulation is conducted every ten minutes for 30 minutes. Treatment is given daily for six days and will run for 4 weeks.
