Smallpox is a highly infectious disease. Smallpox was originally known in English as the pox or red plague but is now believed to have been eradicated from the world (last naturally occuring case diagnosed in 1977). Smallpox is a disease that infect small blood vessel of the skin and in the mouth and throat. For the first 17 days after infection people show no symptoms. However, after the incubation period, symptoms emerge :
– High fever
– Chills
– Headache
– Severe back pain
– Stomach pain
– Vomiting

CAUSES
Smallpox is caused by the virus called variola virus. The virus can be spread directly or indirectly between persons.

Acupuncture Treatment For Smallpox
Acupuncture treatment for smallpox based on the diagnosis that smallpox is caused by wind-heat. Acupoints that are being targeted in this treatment are UB40, SP10, LI11, TH 6, GB 34, GB 41, LI 4, LI 11, TH 5, and SP9. All of those acupoints are treated with the purpose of removing the heat. Treatment also given to the local lesion. The treatment for lesions is conducted by inserting needles towards or under the lesions.
