Tennis elbow, also called Lateral Epicondylitis is a condition which occurs when the tendons in the elbow get overloaded. This condition is considered to be most painful. Although the name of the condition seems to suggest that it only happens to the sport athlete, actually anybody may suffer from this condition.

The symptoms of tennis elbow are pain and tenderness in the bony knob on the outside of the elbow. The pain can radiate to the upper and or lower arm. You may feel pain also if you are doing something with your hands.

CAUSES

 


The cause of this condition is due to the overloaded or over use of wrist and arm. Any repetitive load and movement involving wrist and arms can result in tennis elbow.  Examples of people who might suffer from this condition are plumbers, painters, carpenters, and butchers.

Acupuncture Treatment For Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow is not a serious disease, so can be easily cured by acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture treatment for tennis elbow is done using needles at the size of 40 mm. Acupoints targeted at this treatment are LI12, LI11, LI10, LI4, SJ5 and ashi points.The needles are inserted at each acupoints until sensation of de qi arrived. Needles will stay in place for 30 minutes after de qi sensation felt. For this treatment to be effective, the acupuncturist will combine the acupuncture treatment with massage treatment. Massage is applied to various acupoints such Quchi (LI11), Chize (LU5), Hegu (LI4), Neiguan (PC6), Waiguan (SJ5), Yangxi (LI5), and Shousanli (LI10).
