Ringworm is a tinea fungal infection which is caused by a particular type of fungi, called dermatophytes, which live off keratin. Keratin is a tough, waterproof tissue found in many parts of the body including your skin, hair and nails. This explains why fungal infections mostly affect the skin , scalp or nails. The symptoms of a tinea fungal infection depend on where the infection is. Ringworm can be spread from animal to human or between human. – Red, itchy, scaly, or raised skin patches
– Skin patches that produce blisters
– Skin patches that look like a ring
– Skin patches with defined and raise edges
– Hair loss in the affected area
CAUSES
Ringworm is caused by a fungal infection. Risk factors include :
– Very young or very old
– Afro caribbean race
– Having type 1 diabetes
– Being overweight
– Weakened immune system
– Certain medical treatment
– History of fungal infection
– Having atherosclerosis
