Burns are any skin damage caused by heat, such as a fire, explosion, hot steam or water. Burns will usually be painful but the pain felt does not necessarily reflect the seriousness of the burn as burns can often destroy the nerves that would usual convey pain. Treatment will depend on the severity of the condition, which is measured in degrees: first degree, second degree, and third degree.1

The main symptoms of burns are pain and damage such as red or peeling skin, blisters, swelling, or charring.

CAUSES


The main cause of burns is heat that coming from many source. There are some name that related with burn which explain the source of the heat. Flame burns is burns that cause by heat from fire. Scald is burns that caused by heat from liquid source such as hot water or chemical liquid. Contact burns is a burns that caused by the heat received from contact with hot source such as cigarettes. While electrical burns is the burns that caused by heat from electrical source.

TREATMENTS


Acupuncture treatment for burns will vary depending on the location, size, and severity of the burns. The treatment will usually target acupoints near the location of the burns. The main principle of the treatment is to remove the qi and blood blockages. By removing the blockage, the hope is that the wound will heal sooner. Sometimes, the treatment will be combined with herbal medicine.4
