Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is also called as Hashimoto’s disease. It is a disease that characterized by low producing of hormones by thyroid gland. This condition is known as hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland itself is a gland that make hormones to control human body’s metabolism. The metabolism rate of our body affecting our heart rate and the rate of our body in using calories from food that we eat.

SYMPTOMS


At the beginning of the development of the disease, usually the Hashimoto’s Disease is not producing any symptoms. The very first symptom that we may notice is a swelling at the front of our throat. It is regarded as a chronic disease rather than an acute disease. The Hashimoto’s Disease may develop slowly over years and eventually will make in thyroid hormone levels in our blood getting low. The signs and symptoms of this disease including fatigue, constipation, pale and dry skin, puffy face, and hoarse voice.

CAUSES


Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is caused by an autoimmune disease, where our body immune system attack healthy tissue. The attack of body’s immune cells on thyroid gland causing the gland become inflammed. The attack of the immune cells to the thyroid gland make the gland loosing its ability to produce hormone, eventually lead to a condition named hypothyroidism.

Acupuncture Treatment For Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

Treating Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, acupuncturist will first palpating some acupoints located at the neck of the patient. Therapist will palpating point of ST9, local point near the thyroid gland, LI18, and KI3. The treatment given will aim to regulate and tonify the qi and yang, vitalize the blood, and strengthen the immune system. The course of treatment for this disorder could last for up to three months. The acupuncture treatment will involving needle that is inserted for around 15 minutes. Some acupoints that are being targeted for this treatment including GV20 (elevates the yang and benefits the marrow), Yintang (reflex point of pituary gland that control the thyroid gland), Naganos (powering the qi and blood), Navel (treating the spleen problems), Kidney 7 (regulate the qi of the kidney), and Spleen 6 (improve the blood circulation, vitalizing the blood and also tonify liver, spleen, and kidney)
