Toothache is pain or soreness of the teeth or gums and can be a sharp or dull pain. The tooth is sensitive to pressure but can also be sensitive to heat, cold, or sweet things. People who have toothache should  seek immediate help from their dentist. Toothache usually gets worse if not treated.

Other than pain, toothache can produce swelling of the area around the tooth, fever, headache, and also foul tasting drainage from the infected tooth.

CAUSES

 


Toothache occurs when the most inner area of the tooth called  the dental pulp gets inflamed. It can be for the following reasons :

– Tooth decay
– Cracked tooth
– Broken fillings
– Receding gums
– Abscess

Acupuncture Treatment For Toothache

According to the Traditional Chinese Medication Method, toothache is regarded as a symptom. The disease is said to be caused by stomach fire, wind fire, and kidney yin deficiency. Generally, acupoints that are targeted for the treatment of toothache are LI4, ST6, and ST7.Additional acupoints may be used depend on the caused of the disease, which are :
1. Toothache due to Stomach fire : ST44
2. Toothache due to wind-fire. : SJ2, SJ5, and Du14
3. Toothache due to Kidney Yin deficiency : KD3
