Gallstone is a stone that is exist in our gallbladder. The stone can vary in size ranging from small size like the grain of sand or it may as big as golf ball. Some people may have only one gallstone inside their gallbladder while other people might have many gallstone. If the existence of gallstone produce symptom like pain, then it might need a gallbladder removal surgery. Gallstones that don’t cause any signs and symptoms typically don’t need treatment.

SYMPTOMS


Usually gallstone don’t produce any symptom. The most common symptom of gallstone disease is severe abdominal pain. The pain happen because the gallstone blocks one of the bile ducts. The pain itself is called billiary colic. The pain is constant and isn’t relieved when you go to the toilet, pass wind or are sick. It’s sometimes triggered by eating fatty foods, but may occur at any time of day and it may wake you up during the night. Biliary colic doesn’t happen often. After an episode of pain, it may be several weeks or months before you experience another episode. In a small number of people, gallstones can cause more serious problems if they obstruct the flow of bile for longer periods or move into other organs (such as the pancreas or small bowel).

CAUSES


The formation of gallstone can happen due to many reason including genes, excessive weight, eating habit or due to problem with our gallbladder. Gallstone can also happen if our gallbladder can’t empty properly. Pigment stones are more common in people with certain medical conditions, such as cirrhosis (a liver disease) or blood diseases such as sickle cell anemia.

Gallbladder 34, Pericardium 6, Bladder 19, Stomach 36, Large Intestine 11, and related ear points.

Acupuncture Treatment For Gallstone

In treating gallstone disease, acupuncture usually use acupoints that closely related with gallbladder disease, which are point LV14 and GB24. The LV14 point is used to treat the symptom such as fullness of abdomen, delirium, fullness of the chest and flanks, distention of gastric region resistant to pressure, and fever. Acupoint of LV14 and GB24 are considered to be the alarm point of liver and gallbladder meridian. Other method of acupuncture called ear acupuncture are also used to treat the gallbladder disease such as gallstone. It is believed to be effective method to expel gallstones and especially effective to treat the patient with the characteristic of damp heat .
