Pertussis is type of cough that have the characteristic as uncontrollable and violent. Pertussis usually make the patient feel hard to breathe. This disorder also known as whooping cough. It is considered as highly contagious respiratory disease. This disorder can happen to people of all age and it is regarded as serious and sometimes deadly disorder.

Whooping cough begin with symptoms of common cold such as runny nose, low-grade fever, tiredness, and mild cough. Over time, it is getting worse and becoming pertussis. Symptoms of pertussis in adults people are prolonged and severe coughing that followed by gasping for breath, vomiting after coughing, exhaustion after coughing.

CAUSES

 


Whooping caugh is disorder that caused by bacteria. Bacteria that stay within human body can spread to other people when their host cough or sneeze. The bacteria that is contained within droplets are sprayed into the air and get breathed by anyone else nearby.

Acupuncture Treatment For Pertussis

In order to treat the pertussis, acupuncturist will determine the pattern of the disease. The pattern of the pertussis are :
1. Tai Yang zhong feng with phlegm
2. Win-cold (Catarrhal Stage)
3. Wind-cold with internal heat
4. Wind-cold with underlying yang deficieny (Tai Yang-Shao Yin)
5. Wind-heat
6. Perverse Dryness affects the lungs
7. Wei level : Summerheat with dampness
8. Qi level : Lung Heat
9. Qi level : Heat lingering in the lungs and stomach
10. Summerheat and dampness with liver and gall bladder heat
11. Phlegm-heat congests the lungs
12. Retention of phlegm-fire (paroxymal stage)
13. Lung qi and Yin Deficiency
14. Lung and spleen deficiency (Recovery stage)
15. Cold-damp distresses the spleen
16. Spleen damp disturbs the lungs
17. Heart Yang not vigorous : water qi insults the heart with lung and spleen qi deficiency
18. Liver qi stagnation : phlegm and qi stagnant and blocked
19. Liver fire attacks the lungs
